EAGAN, MINNESOTA - A 23-year-old St. Paul man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he fled from police, drove while impaired, and struck multiple vehicles late Saturday night in Dakota County.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County, Suamy Alexander Contreras Rodas, 23, has been charged with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, along with two misdemeanor counts of driving while impaired and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
Incident Details
The charges stem from an incident on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at approximately 11:13 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the area of Yankee Doodle Road and Highway 13 in Eagan on reports of a silver sedan that had struck multiple vehicles in both Burnsville and Eagan before fleeing.
An officer later located the suspect vehicle near Yankee Doodle Road and Pilot Knob Road and attempted a traffic stop by activating emergency lights. According to the complaint, the driver failed to stop, initiating a pursuit. Authorities attempted multiple tactics to stop the vehicle, including deploying a grappler device and performing a PIT maneuver, both of which were initially unsuccessful. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle reportedly drove the wrong way into traffic, creating additional danger to the public.
Officers ultimately used a PIT maneuver, forcing the vehicle into a fence and ending the pursuit near Highway 3 and Red Pine Lane.
Arrest and Evidence
The driver was removed from the vehicle and identified as Contreras Rodas. Investigators say that at one point, he attempted to re-enter the vehicle while officers were issuing commands. Inside the vehicle, officers reported finding multiple open alcoholic beverage containers, including Twisted Tea and Mike’s Hard Lemonade.
According to the complaint, the defendant showed several signs of impairment, including:
Poor balance
Difficulty understanding instructions
A blank stare
A strong odor of alcohol
A blood sample was obtained through a search warrant and submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) for testing. Results were not included in the complaint.
Crash and Witness Statement
A witness told officers that while driving on Highway 13, their vehicle was sideswiped by the suspect, who continued driving without stopping.
Authorities say the incident involved multiple collisions across different locations in Burnsville and Eagan.
Charges and Potential Penalties
