Exclusive Video Obtained by Limitless Media News Raises Questions in Bloomington Protest Assault Case

Exclusive Video Captured By: Alleister Voosen

BLOOMINGTON, MN: Video obtained exclusively by Limitless Media News is providing additional context in a criminal case stemming from an alleged assault during a “No Kings” protest in Bloomington, and appears to contradict key elements outlined in the criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.

As previously reported by Limitless Media News, Zak X has been charged with third-degree assault and committing a crime while wearing or possessing a bullet-resistant vest following an incident on March 28, 2026, near American Boulevard and Penn Avenue South in Bloomington, Minnesota. According to the criminal complaint, Zak X pointed his phone camera toward a child, prompting the child’s father to approach and smack the phone away. The complaint alleges that Zak X then punched the father in the nose, causing a fracture that required medical treatment.

However, a newly obtained bystander video captured by Alleister Voosen and reviewed by Limitless Media News shows a more complex, rapidly escalating interaction.

In the video, Zak X can be seen walking toward the camera while holding a phone, walking toward the person recording the scene, and appears to be recording in a public space. The video then shows Zak X turning toward a stroller with an assumed kid inside, with Zak X appearing to point the camera down at the kid. Moments later, the child’s father can be seen noticing Zak recording, approaching Zak, then making physical contact with the phone Zak is holding, appearing to strike it, and potentially striking Zak X’s face, but with Zak’s back to the camera, it is hard to tell for sure.

Immediately following that contact, Zak X is seen throwing multiple punches at the father, four to be exact. The defendant, Zak X, has previously claimed he acted in self-defense. The video also captures another individual, holding an American flag, running up behind Zak X and physically intervening, appearing to separate the two men, as the father is seen falling to the ground. The whole incident occurred in around 4-6 seconds.

Following the altercation, the father can be seen pointing at Zak X and heard shouting, “Do not video our [expletive] child,” while the person recording the video responds, “We’re out in public.” While the legality of recording in public spaces is generally protected under the First Amendment, legal experts note that the broader circumstances, particularly physical contact and escalation, are critical in determining whether self-defense claims may apply.

The criminal complaint acknowledges that video evidence shows the father moving toward Zak X and making a motion toward the phone. However, it also states that Zak X had space to retreat and instead took a fighting stance before striking the victim. Some argue that Zak X might not have had space to retreat because the guy coming up from behind him prevented it.

The newly obtained footage may become a key piece of evidence as the case moves forward, particularly regarding who initiated physical contact and whether the defendant’s response was legally justified.

Zak X remains in custody at the Hennepin County District Court. Court records show he is expected to have his first appearance today, March 31, 2026, at 1:30 PM.

As with all criminal cases, the charges outlined in the complaint are allegations. Zak X is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

This article is based on allegations contained in a criminal complaint and exclusive video provided to Limitless Media News. Charges are not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
