DAKOTA COUNTY MN: An Eagan man is facing felony and gross misdemeanor charges following a crash investigation in Apple Valley, with the criminal complaint alleging he spit on a state trooper and operated a vehicle while impaired, with a prior DWI-related license revocation.
According to the criminal complaint, ABDIRAHMAN ADAN ABDULLAHI is charged with Assault in the Fourth Degree (Peace Officer – Transfer of Bodily Fluids) and 3rd Degree Driving While Impaired (Over .08 Within 2 Hours) (Aggravating Factor). The felony assault charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and/or a fine between $1,800 and $6,000. The gross misdemeanor DWI charge carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and/or a fine between $900 and $3,000.
The complaint states that on April 29, 2026, at approximately 1:59 p.m., a Minnesota State Patrol trooper was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash in Apple Valley. Upon arrival, the trooper observed a collision involving a white Honda and a black Ford.
The driver of the Ford was identified as ABDULLAHI. According to the complaint, he had a restricted driver’s license and was later confirmed to be in violation of those restrictions. ABDULLAHI reportedly apologized and told the trooper he was changing lanes when the crash occurred.
The driver of the Honda, identified in the complaint as the victim, stated she was traveling in the center lane when the Ford approached at a high speed and attempted a lane change, resulting in the collision.
While speaking with ABDULLAHI, the trooper detected a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from him, according to the complaint. ABDULLAHI denied consuming alcohol but eventually agreed to perform field sobriety testing after initially being described as defiant. During the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, the trooper observed clues of impairment. ABDULLAHI declined to complete additional testing or provide a preliminary breath test.
According to the complaint, ABDULLAHI was placed under arrest and physically resisted before being secured in a squad car.
During transport to jail, ABDULLAHI allegedly made offensive and obscene statements toward the trooper. The complaint states that he said, “I wanna spit on your f*****g face,” before spitting at the trooper, with droplets landing on the trooper’s head and face.
At the jail, ABDULLAHI was read the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory, spoke with an attorney, and agreed to a DataMaster breath test. The result showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.16, according to the complaint.
Court records cited in the complaint indicate ABDULLAHI’s driver’s license had been revoked on May 21, 2025, due to a qualified driving while impaired incident.
The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
