Apple Valley Man Charged After Allegedly Fleeing Eagan Police at 107 MPH, Cocaine Recovered Following Pursuit
Published: March 11, 2026
EAGAN, MINNESOTA - An Apple Valley man is facing felony charges after authorities say he fled from an Eagan police officer on a motorcycle at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour before being taken into custody and allegedly discarding cocaine during the pursuit.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County District Court, Jonathon Ceary Duncan, 30, of Apple Valley, has been charged with Fifth-Degree Controlled Substance Crime (Possession) and Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, both felony offenses.
Traffic Stop Leads to High-Speed Pursuit
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, at approximately 9:58 p.m., when an Eagan Police officer was on routine patrol along Pilot Knob Road.
The officer observed two motorcycles traveling southbound and reportedly noticed several traffic violations as they approached Cliff Road, including the motorcycles failing to stay within their lane. The officer also observed that one motorcycle had an obstructed license plate, non-functioning running lights, and another motorcycle lacked a license plate entirely, according to the complaint.
After the traffic light turned green, the officer activated the emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. Both motorcycles initially pulled over to the side of the road, but as the officer began stopping behind them, one of the motorcycles suddenly made a U-turn and fled at a high rate of speed, the complaint states.
The officer activated his siren and emergency lights and made a U-turn to pursue the motorcycle.
Speeds Reached 107 MPH
During the pursuit, authorities say the fleeing motorcycle ran a red light at Pilot Knob Road and Cliff Road while traveling northbound. The complaint states that the motorcycle reached speeds of approximately 107 mph as it continued fleeing from the officer. As the pursuit continued near Pilot Knob Road and Civic Center Drive, the officer reported seeing the rider, later identified as Duncan, digging into his right pocket, after which a black object fell to the pavement. A white-colored object was also seen falling from the motorcycle shortly afterward.
Duncan eventually brought the motorcycle to a stop and was taken into custody without further incident, according to court documents. Officers also reported locating a large knife on Duncan at the time of the arrest.
Cocaine Recovered Following Pursuit
After the arrest, officers returned to the area where the officer had observed objects fall from the motorcycle. Investigators reported locating a black glove and two plastic bags containing a powdery substance. A preliminary field test indicated the substance was cocaine.
Authorities say the bags contained 5.58 grams and 1.66 grams, respectively, for a combined total of 7.24 grams of cocaine.
Additional Violations Discovered
Police later determined that the motorcycle’s vehicle registration had expired and that Duncan’s Minnesota driving privileges had been revoked at the time of the incident.
Bail and Court Conditions
Prosecutors requested bail of $20,000 without conditions, or $15,000 with conditions. Court records also note the defendant has a lengthy minor traffic record and prior criminal convictions. The judge ultimately set bail at $20,000 without conditions and $10,000 with conditions. At the time of writing this story, Duncan remained in custody at the Dakota County Jail.
As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
