Driver Accused of Fleeing Eden Prairie Police at Over 100 MPH, Driving Wrong Way on Highway 101

EDEN PRAIRIE: — A 27-year-old man is facing two felony charges after Eden Prairie police say he fled an attempted traffic stop at speeds exceeding 100 mph, drove the wrong way through a roundabout and into opposing lanes of Highway 101 before eventually crashing into a ditch.
Yovani Aguilar Rosas has been charged in Hennepin County District Court with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, felony obstructing the legal process and misdemeanor reckless driving in connection with the Sept. 19 incident.
According to the criminal complaint, Eden Prairie police were near Flying Cloud Drive and Spring Road at approximately 1:01 a.m. when they observed a Ford Focus traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. Police said the vehicle was clocked at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
An officer got behind the vehicle and activated emergency lights. The complaint alleges the Ford initially began slowing down but did not stop and instead accelerated away, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
Police allege Aguilar Rosas drove westbound in the eastbound lanes of Flying Cloud Drive. Officers terminated the pursuit but continued following the vehicle without emergency lights or sirens, according to the complaint.
The vehicle continued to the Highway 101 roundabout, where police allege the driver entered the roundabout going the wrong direction before continuing northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 101.
According to the complaint, the vehicle then turned west onto Pioneer Trail in Carver County, where it crashed into a ditch before getting back out.
Police then performed a PIT maneuver, successfully stopping the vehicle, the complaint states. The driver was arrested and identified as Aguilar Rosas.
Police reported finding an open bottle of beer inside the vehicle. Aguilar Rosas registered a .029 blood alcohol concentration on a preliminary breath test, according to the complaint. The complaint does not list a DWI charge.
Aguilar Rosas allegedly declined to provide a statement to police and was taken into custody.
The felony fleeing charge carries a maximum sentence of three years and one day in prison and/or a $5,000 fine. The felony obstruction charge carries a maximum sentence of five years and/or a $10,000 fine. The reckless-driving charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
The charges are allegations. Aguilar Rosas is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
