Woman Charged With Felony Assault After Allegedly Jumping Hospital Desk, Attacking Two Emergency Workers

MINNEAPOLIS: — A 23-year-old woman is facing two felony assault charges after prosecutors allege she jumped over a hospital emergency department desk in Minneapolis and attacked two healthcare workers, pulling one worker's hair and punching them while repeatedly kicking and scratching another.
Olivia Briann McClain has been charged in Hennepin County District Court with two counts of fourth-degree assault of emergency medical personnel causing demonstrable bodily harm. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and/or a $6,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office deputies responded Sept. 18 to a reported assault in the emergency department of a hospital on the 700 block of 8th Street in Minneapolis.
Prosecutors allege McClain had entered the emergency department seeking care and, at some point, became aggressive while two healthcare workers were seated behind a desk checking in patients.
The complaint alleges McClain jumped over the desk and began pulling one worker's hair and punching them. She is also accused of repeatedly kicking and scratching the second worker.
The first worker reported experiencing neck pain as a result of having their hair pulled and being punched, according to the complaint. Deputies also observed visible scratches and abrasions on the second worker, prosecutors allege.
Both workers were performing their duties in the emergency department at the time of the alleged assaults, according to the complaint.
McClain was in custody when the complaint was filed, and prosecutors requested that the case be issued through an order of detention.
The charges are allegations. McClain is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
