FAA, NTSB Investigating Small Plane Crash in Winona County

WINONA COUNTY MN: A small aircraft crashed Wednesday evening near the intersection of Winona County Roads 33 and 6 after the pilot reportedly experienced engine trouble, according to the Winona County Sheriff's Office.

Winona County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting the crash at approximately 6:52 p.m.

Authorities identified the aircraft as a Glasair I RG. According to preliminary information, the pilot experienced engine trouble and was attempting to make an emergency landing when the aircraft crashed.

The pilot, a 62-year-old man and the aircraft's sole occupant, was able to exit the plane on his own. He was transported by Lewiston Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital–Saint Marys Campus. Authorities did not release information about his condition.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are assisting with the investigation.

Responding agencies included the Winona County Sheriff's Office, Lewiston Ambulance, Lewiston Fire Department, Winona County Emergency Management, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released when appropriate, according to the sheriff's office.
