Dakota County Offering Free Naloxone Kits and Fentanyl Test Strips at Multiple Locations
Published: July 9th, 2026
DAKOTA COUNTY: Dakota County is making free naloxone kits and fentanyl test strips available to anyone in the community as part of its ongoing efforts to prevent overdose deaths.
Naloxone, commonly known by the brand name Narcan, is a medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose caused by drugs such as heroin, oxycodone, or fentanyl. Fentanyl test strips can be used to detect the presence of fentanyl in other drugs, helping reduce the risk of accidental overdose.
County officials say anyone can pick up a free naloxone kit and fentanyl test strips without providing insurance information or personal identification. Both nasal spray and intramuscular naloxone kits are available.
Residents can obtain the supplies at several Dakota County locations, including Public Health offices at the Northern Service Center in West St. Paul and the Western Service Center in Apple Valley.
Free kits and test strips are also available at the following Dakota County library locations:
Burnhaven Library, Burnsville
Farmington Library
Galaxie Library, Apple Valley
Heritage Library, Lakeville
Inver Glen Library, Inver Grove Heights
Kaposia Library, South St. Paul
