FARIBAULT MN: Police say a man was taken into custody Thursday morning after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a rifle at a school bus carrying students in Faribault.

According to the Faribault Police Department, officers were dispatched at 7:42 a.m. on March 5 to the 200 block of Eighth Street NW after a school bus aide reported that an adult male approached the bus while holding and pointing what appeared to be a long gun.

The bus, operated by Faribault Transportation, was on its way to Roosevelt Early Learning Center at the time of the incident. A driver and bus aide were on board, along with several students.

Police said no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

Officers spoke with the bus staff and determined the suspect had exited a residence at 228 Eighth St. NW. Faribault officers, assisted by deputies from the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, established a perimeter around the home and attempted to make contact with the suspect while also obtaining a search warrant.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the suspect — 38-year-old Alex Jeffrey Wolters — exited the residence and attempted to leave on foot. Officers detained Wolters and took him into custody without incident.

Wolters could face a felony charge of Terroristic Threats, according to police.

The investigation remains active as detectives execute a search warrant at the residence.

Authorities said the Faribault Police Department worked closely with Faribault Transportation, the Faribault School District, and Discovery School, which was placed on soft lockdown during the incident due to its proximity to the scene.

Police say there is no longer a threat to the public.
