Farmington Police Department Mourns the Loss of Officer Pete Zajac

FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA – The City of Farmington and the Farmington Police Department are mourning the loss of Officer Pete Zajac, a respected fifteen-year veteran of the department who died by suicide late Tuesday night, October 28, 2025. Officer Zajac served the community with dedication and compassion throughout his career. For the past two years, he has served as the School Resource Officer in the Farmington School District, building strong relationships with students, staff, and families. Known for his kindness and professionalism, Officer Zajac’s presence left a lasting impression on both his colleagues and the community he served.
In statements shared Wednesday morning, both the Farmington Police Department and the City of Farmington expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
“Our hearts are heavy as we grieve this profound loss within our Police Department and our community,” the city said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. The city, Police Department, and the Farmington School District are providing support and resources to staff and students as we come together to navigate this tragedy.”
To allow members of the Farmington Police Department the space and time to grieve, the city announced that law enforcement coverage for Farmington will be temporarily supported by surrounding law enforcement agencies. Officials expressed gratitude for the support and partnership from neighboring departments as the community comes together to heal.
The city is asking residents to keep Officer Zajac’s family, friends, and the entire Farmington community in their thoughts and prayers. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no further details will be released at this time.
The Farmington Police Department announced that a memorial has been set up at the Farmington Police Station for those wishing to pay their respects to Officer Pete Zajac. Visitors are welcome to leave flowers, notes, or take a quiet moment to remember Officer Zajac and the dedication he showed to keeping our community safe.
