BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA – A late-morning traffic disruption on I-35W was caused by a semi-truck losing several hay bales after striking a bridge, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Troopers were dispatched at 10:46 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, to the area of southbound I-35W near 90th Street, where multiple hay bales were reported blocking portions of the roadway. When responders arrived, they found that a semi-truck hauling a hay-filled trailer had struck an overpass, causing some of the load to break loose and fall onto the interstate. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

Crews worked quickly to remove the hay bales and restore normal traffic flow in the area. Traffic was slowed as motorists navigated around the debris, but no extended closures were needed. MnDOT called in three plows to help remove the debris from the roadway.

The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident, including what led to the bridge strike and whether load height or securement played a role.

MN Big Rigs first reported this incident on their Facebook page. You can see their post below.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
