INVER GROVE HEIGHTS MN: The Inver Grove Heights City Council voted to adjourn Monday night's meeting before taking action on a proposed data center moratorium and a planned data center after city officials said they had received new information requiring additional review.

The City Council was scheduled to consider two closely related agenda items: a third reading of an interim ordinance authorizing the study of data centers and imposing a temporary moratorium on the construction or expansion of data centers, and a major site plan request for the development of an approximately 54,070-square-foot data center at 5890 Carmen Avenue.

The meeting drew a large crowd of residents, many of whom attended to voice their support or opposition to the proposals. At times, attendees shouted from the audience as emotions ran high.

Before either agenda item was considered, council members announced they had received new information late Monday afternoon and wanted additional time to review it before taking action. The City Council subsequently voted to adjourn the meeting and reschedule consideration of both items for Friday at 8 a.m.

According to comments made during the meeting, the newly received information included questions related to the proposed project's noise testing and noise levels.

The proposed interim ordinance would temporarily pause the construction or expansion of data centers while the city studies the potential impacts of such facilities and considers future regulations. The separate site plan request would allow for the development of an approximately 54,070-square-foot data center at 5890 Carmen Avenue.

The rescheduled meeting is expected to draw continued public interest as the City Council considers both the proposed moratorium and the site plan request later this week.
