HENNEPIN COUNTY MN: The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office says a suspected car thief accused of targeting multiple high-performance vehicles has been arrested following an investigation by the agency’s Auto Theft Task Force.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators identified the suspect late last month while looking into several vehicle thefts. Authorities say the suspect was allegedly using an illicit key-programming device to steal vehicles, allowing new keys to be programmed and the vehicles driven away.
Investigators also discovered the suspect had an active federal warrant for violating parole related to a previous conviction involving possession of a machine gun.
The suspect was safely taken into custody during a coordinated operation involving the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Task Force, Emergency Services Unit, and General Investigations Unit.
During the arrest, authorities say deputies recovered two firearms, two stolen vehicles, and two key-programming devices believed to have been used in the thefts.
