Inver Grove Heights: Chain-Reaction Crash on Highway 55 Backs Up Morning Commute
Published: December 9, 2025.
INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA – A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and several passenger vehicles resulted in a travel headache Tuesday morning on westbound Highway 55 near northbound Highway 52, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash occurred at 8:32 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in the westbound lanes of Highway 55 at the northbound Highway 52 interchange. Investigators say the incident began when a Toyota spun out in front of a semi-truck, resulting in a T-bone style collision. The impact sparked a chain reaction, with several vehicles behind the initial crash unable to stop due to slick roadway conditions.
In total, five passenger vehicles and the semi-truck required towing because of significant damage. One driver suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Due to a pileup and hazardous road conditions, the ramp to Highway 55 was temporarily closed while emergency crews treated the injured, cleared damaged vehicles, and worked to treat the roadway. Public works crews applied salt and sand to improve traction and address the slick conditions that contributed to the crash.
The roadway and ramp were reopened around 9:45 a.m., restoring normal traffic flow ahead of the late morning drive.
The Minnesota State Patrol continues to review the circumstances surrounding the Toyota’s spinout, including traffic and weather conditions at the time of the incident.
