ORIGINAL STORY - INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA: A shelter-in-place alert was issued Thursday night for residents in the area near Upper 55th Street East and Babcock Trail out of an abundance of caution after a tense situation involving an armed individual.

According to an update from the Inver Grove Heights Police Department (IGH), the incident began around 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025, when officers were called to the 5400 block of Babcock Trail for a reported disturbance. The caller advised that an adult male at the residence was “out of control.” When officers arrived, they quickly learned the man had retreated inside the home and was armed with a knife, prompting additional law enforcement support from neighboring agencies.

For more than two hours, IGH officers and assisting agencies worked to communicate with the individual and de-escalate the situation. Police say those efforts were ultimately successful, and the man voluntarily exited the residence to receive care. No injuries were reported.

As the incident unfolded, authorities issued a shelter-in-place alert for the nearby neighborhood out of what they described as “an abundance of caution.” The advisory went out around 9 p.m. and urged residents to remain indoors while officers worked to bring the situation under control. The alert was lifted around 10 p.m. after officers determined there was no ongoing threat to the public.

In a statement, Inver Grove Heights Police expressed gratitude to partner agencies for their assistance and relief that the incident concluded without harm.

“We are very thankful for our law enforcement partners who responded to assist us and that this situation was resolved peacefully,” the department said.

Authorities have not released additional details about the individual involved, but confirmed there is no ongoing danger to the community. Further updates will be provided if additional information becomes available.
