INVER GROVE HEIGHTS MN: A 32-year-old man is facing felony fleeing charges after a pursuit that allegedly reached speeds of 80 to 90 mph through Inver Grove Heights during the early morning hours of May 4, according to a Dakota County criminal complaint.
Levell Darrell Booth has been charged in Dakota County with one count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony, and one count of fleeing a peace officer on foot, a misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, an Inver Grove Heights police officer was on patrol near Upper 55th Street East and Cenex Avenue at approximately 1:52 a.m. on May 4 when the officer observed an older model Chevrolet Impala with a suspended vehicle registration.
The complaint states the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop after the vehicle turned into a gas station parking lot. The driver allegedly attempted to leave through the back of the lot and accelerated away as the officer activated emergency lights and sirens.
The vehicle allegedly traveled southbound on Bishop Avenue before entering northbound Highway 52. According to the complaint, the pursuit continued onto eastbound Interstate 494, exited near 7th Avenue, and wound through frontage roads, alleys, and residential streets.
The complaint states the vehicle eventually stopped near Park Street and 3rd Avenue. The driver, described as a Black male wearing a pink bonnet and dark sweatshirt, allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
An officer pursued the man behind a residence but temporarily lost sight of him, according to the complaint. Officers then established a perimeter around a nearby home after prior law enforcement contacts connected Booth to the Chevrolet Impala involved in the pursuit.
According to the complaint, a woman identified as S.R. told officers Booth had entered her home during the police search. S.R. allegedly provided officers with video footage showing Booth running into the residence while officers were pursuing him on foot.
The complaint states Booth eventually exited the residence after S.R. contacted him by phone and called for him to come outside. Although Booth had allegedly changed clothing, officers believed he matched the description of the fleeing driver.
According to the complaint, Booth became uncooperative during his arrest and officers had to carry him to a patrol vehicle after he allegedly refused to walk. While being transported to jail, Booth allegedly kicked the squad car doors and partition, threatened to spit on officers, and threatened to assault officers.
