Police Seek Answers More Than Two Years After Father Shot While Riding Motorcycle in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS MN — Police are asking for the public’s help more than two years after a 25-year-old father was shot while riding his motorcycle in south Minneapolis and later died from his injuries.
Johnny “Cruz” Birzavi Sanchez Sanchez was riding his motorcycle near 31st Street and Clinton Avenue South on July 25, 2024, when he was shot, according to investigators.
Sanchez survived the initial shooting but died nearly three months later from complications related to the gunshot wound. He left behind a 7-year-old daughter.
More than two years later, investigators are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are asking anyone who may have information about Sanchez or his movements that day to come forward.
Investigators said Sanchez was known to spend time in unsheltered communities near Interstate 35W and Lake Street before the shooting. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who knew Sanchez, saw him or his motorcycle around the time of the shooting, or heard information about what happened.
Authorities emphasized that information that may have seemed insignificant at the time could help investigators piece together the circumstances surrounding his death.

Information leading to a felony arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
