DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA - Law enforcement agencies across Dakota County have arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with a series of school-related threats that disrupted multiple schools in Burnsville, Apple Valley, Eagan, Rosemount, and surrounding communities on Tuesday, December 16, two additional juveniles are being questioned, according to information released by the Burnsville Police Department and the Apple Valley Police Department.
Earlier in the day, Burnsville Police were notified of a potential threat directed at Burnsville High School, as well as other neighboring high schools. District 191 administrators were immediately informed, and additional officers were deployed to Burnsville High School to provide enhanced security and assist with the safe and orderly dismissal of students.
Burnsville Police confirmed that threats involving District 191 and District 196 high schools were turned over to the Apple Valley Police Department, which led the broader investigation.
Later that day, a separate social media threat targeting Nicollet Middle School and Eagle Ridge Middle School was reported. Burnsville Police responded and launched an investigation, identifying two juvenile suspects who are currently being questioned by authorities. Authorities stated at the time that they did not believe the incidents were related and indicated there was no ongoing threat to the public.
According to a subsequent update from the Apple Valley Police Department, detectives investigating the series of threats executed a search warrant at a residence in the City of Eagan. As a result of that investigation, officers identified and arrested a 16-year-old male believed to be responsible for the threats.
Police confirmed that no weapons were located during the execution of the search warrant. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody and is expected to be transported to the Dakota County Juvenile Detention Center, where formal charges will be sought through the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.
Authorities said the investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies and school districts, impacting thousands of students, staff, and families across the south metro area.
Both Burnsville and Apple Valley police departments thanked their law enforcement partners, Independent School Districts 191 and 196, and school administrators for their cooperation during what officials described as a stressful and concerning day for the community.
Officials emphasized that while threats involving schools are taken extremely seriously, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to public safety at this time.
Because the suspects are all juveniles, no additional identifying information has been released.
This remains an active investigation. Limitless Media News will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
