Man Charged After Allegedly Leading Inver Grove Heights Police on 3-Mile Pursuit
INVER GROVE HEIGHTS MN: — A man has been charged with felony fleeing a peace officer after prosecutors allege he sped away from an Inver Grove Heights traffic stop and led officers on a roughly three-mile pursuit before police terminated the chase over public safety concerns.
Jordan Patrick Hartman, 28, is charged in Dakota County District Court with one count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony.
According to the criminal complaint, Inver Grove Heights police conducted a traffic stop near the 5100 block of Robert Trail on Aug. 28. Officers approached the vehicle and identified Hartman as its sole occupant and driver.
Hartman allegedly told officers that his driver's license was not valid. While officers were checking his information, prosecutors allege Hartman suddenly drove away at a high rate of speed.
An officer activated emergency lights and sirens and pursued the vehicle, according to the complaint. During the approximately three-mile pursuit, Hartman allegedly sped, swerved between lanes and maneuvered around other vehicles while officers followed with their emergency equipment activated.
Police ultimately terminated the pursuit due to public safety concerns, the complaint states.
Two days later, Hartman was allegedly found slumped over in the same vehicle and was taken to a hospital, according to prosecutors. The complaint does not provide additional details about his condition or the circumstances under which he was located.
Prosecutors also state in the complaint that Hartman has two other pending fleeing charges and two separate prior convictions. Pending charges are allegations and do not constitute convictions.
The felony fleeing charge carries a maximum potential sentence of three years and one day in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
Hartman is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
