Man Charged After Allegedly Picking Up Package Containing More Than 600 Grams of MDMA in Edina

EDINA MN: A man has been charged with first-degree controlled substance possession after authorities allege he picked up a package containing more than 600 grams of MDMA from a U.S. Postal Service facility in Edina.
Caron Justin Anthony Jackson, 27, is charged in Hennepin County District Court with one felony count of first-degree controlled substance possession involving 500 grams or more of a hallucinogen.
According to the criminal complaint, task force officers working with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service had previously intercepted a parcel being shipped from Houston, Texas, to Minneapolis. The package was addressed to a “Carron Jackson.”
Authorities obtained a federal search warrant for the package and allegedly discovered approximately 612 grams of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as MDMA. The complaint states MDMA is a Schedule I controlled substance classified as a hallucinogen under Minnesota law.
Investigators allege a person claiming to be the package's intended recipient contacted USPS customer service five times regarding the shipment. The calls allegedly originated from a Houston-area phone number registered to a “Caron Jackson.”
According to the probable cause statement, the caller identified himself as Caron Jackson during calls on Aug. 28, Aug. 29 and Sept. 1 and repeatedly requested that the package be redelivered.
Officers later placed a recorded call to the same phone number, according to the complaint. Authorities allege the person who answered identified himself as Jackson, confirmed the parcel was his and said he still wanted to retrieve it.
Investigators subsequently conducted surveillance at the intended delivery location and allegedly observed Jackson in the parking lot of the residence.
On Sept. 2, Jackson went to a U.S. Postal Service annex on the 7300 block of Bush Lake Road in Edina, according to the complaint. Prosecutors allege Jackson told a postal employee he was there to retrieve the package, displayed its electronic tracking number and discussed delays involving its delivery.
Jackson allegedly took possession of the parcel and left the postal facility, at which point officers arrested him.
According to the complaint, officers searched Jackson's vehicle and found a USPS redelivery form associated with the parcel.
Jackson was in custody at the time the criminal complaint was filed.
First-degree controlled substance possession is a felony. The charge filed against Jackson carries a maximum statutory sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine ranging from $300,000 to $1 million.
The allegations contained in a criminal complaint are accusations. Jackson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
