MINNEAPOLIS: A man has been charged with attempted second-degree murder after prosecutors allege he shot a woman inside a vehicle in Minneapolis days after allegedly threatening to kill her.

Antone Larron Owens, 60, is charged in Hennepin County District Court with attempted second-degree intentional murder, second-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm and unlawful possession of a firearm following the Aug. 2 shooting.

According to the criminal complaint, Minneapolis police responded to Abbott Northwestern Hospital at approximately 8:50 p.m. after a woman arrived with a gunshot wound to her wrist.

The woman told officers that Owens approached her vehicle near Lake Street and 13th Avenue South, pulled out a firearm and fired twice while she was inside. She was struck in the arm and drove herself to the hospital, the complaint alleges.

Police later observed what appeared to be bullet damage to the driver's side of the vehicle. Surveillance footage also allegedly showed the woman's vehicle in the area around the time of the shooting.

The complaint states that the woman had recently told Owens that she intended to divorce him. She also reported that two days before the shooting, Owens allegedly threatened to kill her after she declined to return home. Court records cited in the complaint show divorce paperwork was filed July 27.

Police arrested Owens on Aug. 5. During a search following his arrest, officers allegedly discovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun concealed beneath a floor HVAC vent. Police later determined that the firearm had been reported stolen from St. Cloud, according to the complaint.

A subsequent search of the woman's vehicle reportedly uncovered multiple bullet fragments. Prosecutors say the woman has undergone multiple surgeries in an effort to preserve the use of her injured arm.

Owens is also charged with unlawful firearm possession because of previous felony convictions that prohibit him from possessing a firearm. The complaint cites a 2014 third-degree drug sale conviction and a 2024 third-degree drug possession conviction.

Owens remains in custody in connection with the case.

The charges are allegations. Owens is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
