MINNEAPOLIS - A 27-year-old man has been charged with a felony in Hennepin County following an August shooting in Minneapolis that left another man injured with a gunshot wound.
Faisal Hassan Sheikh, born April 3, 1999, is charged with one felony count of dangerous weapons — drive-by shooting toward a person. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine, or both.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County, Minneapolis police responded to a reported shooting on August 15, 2026, near 2929 Hennepin Avenue South.
Officers located an adult male who reported being shot in his right forearm. The victim told investigators he had been at a club when he became involved in an argument with a group of two or three men.
The complaint alleges that as the victim was leaving the club, the same individuals approached him in a light-colored vehicle and continued arguing. One of the individuals allegedly threatened to shoot the victim, who reportedly challenged the threat before gunfire erupted.
The victim was transported to a hospital by emergency medical services.
Investigators subsequently identified a shooting scene near 1414 West Lake Street, where officers discovered bullet damage to a building. According to the complaint, the location was associated with an alleged illegal after-hours party.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed a white Acura arriving in the area at approximately 5:20 a.m. The vehicle later traveled westbound in the wrong direction on Lake Street before stopping near the victim, who was standing on the sidewalk.
According to the complaint, individuals on the sidewalk began running in apparent reaction to gunfire. The vehicle then continued westbound past Hennepin Avenue.
Investigators identified the vehicle through its Minnesota license plate and determined it had traveled between Minnesota and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on multiple occasions in recent months.
Sioux Falls police subsequently identified Sheikh as the suspected driver based on surveillance images and previous incidents involving the vehicle. Investigators also obtained cellphone records allegedly placing Sheikh in the area of the shooting at approximately 4:05 a.m. and 5:33 a.m. on August 15.
On October 6th, investigators located the Acura at a residence in Hopkins.
Sheikh was taken into custody on October 16 in connection with the investigation.
According to the complaint, Sheikh participated in an interview after being advised of his Miranda rights. During the interview, he allegedly identified himself in surveillance images from the incident and acknowledged being the driver of the Acura.
The complaint does not specify that Sheikh personally fired the weapon. The felony charge includes allegations of accomplice liability under Minnesota law.
Sheikh remains in custody in connection with the case, according to the complaint.
The allegations contained in the criminal complaint have not been proven in court, and Sheikh is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
