Man Charged After Alleged Threat to Shoot South St. Paul School

South Saint Paul MN: A 28-year-old man is facing charges in Ramsey County after prosecutors say he violated an active order for protection and allegedly threatened to carry out a shooting at a South St. Paul school.

According to a criminal complaint, Trequan Delon Prewitt was previously served with an order for protection (OFP) on December 5, 2025. The order prohibited him from having any contact with a woman and her child, as well as from going to their residence or the child’s school, South Saint Paul Secondary School.

Despite the order, authorities allege Prewitt had contact with the woman on March 17–18, 2026, at an apartment building in St. Paul. Officers were initially dispatched around 12:45 a.m. on March 18 after a 911 hang-up call related to a domestic incident.

According to the complaint, the woman told officers she allowed Prewitt to come to her residence to retrieve belongings. An argument followed, during which Prewitt allegedly accused her of infidelity and later returned to the property multiple times.

The complaint states that during a confrontation outside, Prewitt allegedly banged on the woman’s car windows, pulled on the door handle—breaking it—and made a series of threats. Among them, prosecutors allege Prewitt threatened to have others assault the woman and threatened harm toward her unborn child.

Authorities further allege that Prewitt made a direct threat involving the school, telling the woman, “Tomorrow when you take your son to school, I’m going to shoot the [expletive] out of the school.”

According to the complaint, the woman also reported prior threats by Prewitt, including threats to shoot her home and harm her child.

The South St. Paul School District canceled classes on March 18 as a precaution following the reported threat.

Prewitt later turned himself in to South St. Paul police. After being advised of his rights, he acknowledged knowing about the OFP but claimed the woman contacted him first, saying she was going into labor. He denied making threats about a school shooting or directing others to assault her, telling investigators he did not recall making such statements.

According to the complaint, Prewitt is charged with one count of threats of violence—reckless disregard risk, and one count of domestic abuse for violating an order for protection within 10 years of a previous conviction.

Court records show Prewitt has a prior felony domestic assault conviction from 2017 involving a separate victim. The complaint also notes prior convictions for first-degree aggravated robbery.

Prewitt is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
