Basement Fire Prompts Second-Alarm Response in the City of Mendota

MENDOTA, MN: Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a residential fire in the City of Mendota Sunday afternoon after crews confirmed a working fire in the basement of a home. Mendota Heights firefighters and police were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, to the 300 block of East Street following reports of a structure fire, with mutual aid from Eagan Fire.
Crews subsequently confirmed there was an active fire in the basement of the residence. Authorities also confirmed that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
Response Upgraded to Second Alarm
Approximately 12 minutes after the initial dispatch, at around 12:27 p.m., the incident was upgraded to a second-alarm response, bringing additional resources from the South Metro Fire Department to the scene. South Metro Fire was later cleared from the incident.
The second-alarm designation can be used to bring additional firefighters, equipment, and other resources to a scene as crews work to contain a structure fire and manage operations. Information was not immediately available Sunday afternoon regarding whether any firefighters or others were injured during the incident.
The extent of the damage to the residence also remains unknown.
