Boater Rescued From Mississippi River Near Inver Grove Heights, Taken to Hospital

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA— Emergency crews responded to a water rescue after a man was reported to be in the water near the Rock Island Swing Bridge on the Mississippi River near Inver Grove Heights around 3:20 PM on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

It was initially reported that the man was seen floating in the river near the Rock Island Swing Bridge. According to the Inver Grove Heights Fire Department, firefighters reached the scene by boat, where they located the man conscious but in need of medical assistance on one of the islands just south of the Rock Island Swing Bridge. Firefighters assisted him into their rescue boat and transported him back to the nearby marina.

The South Metro Fire Department, which also responded to the incident, followed up by towing the man’s boat back to a slip in the nearby marina. Once on shore, the man was evaluated and transported to a nearby hospital by M Health ambulance. His current condition has not been released.

Authorities have not identified the man, and it remains unclear how he ended up in the water.
