SAVAGE, MINNESOTA: One man was hospitalized with serious injuries, and another man was taken into custody following a shooting Wednesday afternoon in Savage that police say stemmed from a dispute between two people who knew each other.

Savage Police and Fire personnel, along with several neighboring agencies, responded at approximately 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to multiple reports of shots fired near 143rd Street and Utica Avenue. According to an initial press release from the Savage Police Department, responding officers took multiple individuals into custody as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the reported gunfire.

One person was transported from the scene with serious injuries. Police initially described the area as a "very active and involved crime scene" and asked members of the public to avoid the vicinity while officers conducted their investigation. Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Police Say Shooting Followed Dispute

In an update issued at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, Savage Police said officers had completed an initial investigation and determined that the gunfire occurred during a dispute between two people who knew each other.

An adult male from Savage was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. Police did not provide additional information about the man's condition in the update. A second adult male, also from Savage, was taken into custody.

Police have not publicly identified either man, and the department did not immediately provide additional information regarding what led up to the dispute or whether the man in custody is expected to face criminal charges.

Tactical Team Clears Nearby Homes

The Tri-City Tactical Team also responded to the incident and assisted officers in safely clearing two nearby homes, according to Savage Police. Authorities did not indicate why the homes needed to be cleared or whether anyone associated with the investigation was located inside.

Investigators remained at the scene Wednesday evening collecting evidence as the investigation continued. Part of that investigation, per reports to Limitless Media from the scene, included police inspecting for bullet holes in neighboring homes. Police reiterated that there was no threat to the general public but continued asking residents and motorists to avoid the area while law enforcement worked.

No additional information was available from the Savage Police Department as of its 8:30 p.m. update.

The investigation remains active.
