MINNEAPOLIS MN: A man was shot and killed late Tuesday night inside a south Minneapolis apartment building, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

In a statement released February 25, Police Chief Brian O’Hara said officers from the Fifth Precinct responded at approximately 10:42 p.m. on February 24 to a report of a shooting inside an apartment building in the 100 block of East 18th Street.

According to police, responding officers located an adult man lying in a first-floor common area of the building with what was described as a fatal gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary information gathered by investigators indicates that an altercation occurred inside the building and escalated to gunfire, police said. Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the altercation or how many people may have been involved.

Officers secured the scene and canvassed the building and surrounding area for witnesses. MPD homicide investigators and forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence, according to the department.

As of Wednesday, no arrests had been announced.

“Another life has been lost to senseless gun violence,” Chief O’Hara said in a statement issued by the department. “We are asking anyone with information about this incident or the identity of those involved to come forward and assist investigators.”

The case number is 26-046675.
