One Dead After Utility Pole Falls Onto Vehicle in Hopkins, Sparking Fire

HOPKINS MN- One person died Sunday after a utility pole fell onto a vehicle in Hopkins, causing the vehicle to catch fire, according to city officials.

Hopkins police and firefighters responded to the incident in the 300 block of Blake Road North on Sunday, Aug. 23.

According to a joint release from the Hopkins Police and Fire departments, a utility pole fell onto an occupied vehicle. The vehicle subsequently caught fire, and the person inside died.

Authorities said the area remained an active scene Sunday as the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated. Officials did not immediately provide information on what caused the utility pole to fall.

The identity of the person who died has not yet been released. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the person’s name.
