WEST ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA—Two teenagers are in custody following a Friday night police pursuit that ended in a crash on Mendota Road near South Robert Street, according to the West St. Paul Police Department.
Police say officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle around 9:50 p.m. on Friday, October 31, when the driver refused to pull over and fled. Moments later, the suspect vehicle crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Robert Street and Mendota Road, on the border of West St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by M Health Fairview paramedics to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said.
Following the collision, both occupants of the stolen vehicle fled on foot, prompting a large perimeter search. Officers from Inver Grove Heights Police, South Metro Fire, and the Minnesota State Patrol Air Patrol assisted West St. Paul officers in locating the suspects.
Both individuals, a 16-year-old male driver and a 16-year-old male passenger, were eventually taken into custody. Police say the driver was transported to the Dakota County Juvenile Detention Center, while the passenger was released to a guardian pending charges.
Authorities have not released the identities of the juveniles due to their age.
The incident remains under investigation by the West St. Paul Police Department.
