Corrections Officer Charged With Sexually Assaulting Two Inmates

POLK COUNTY MN — A Corrections Officer at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston MN has been charged with two felony counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct after prosecutors allege he sexually assaulted two female inmates while working at the facility.
Irving Emmanuel Jacobo Bravo, 49, is charged in Polk County with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving penetration and a prohibited occupational relationship. Each count carries a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in prison, a $30,000 fine, or both.
According to the criminal complaint, a Polk County Sheriff's Office investigator responded to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center on Sept. 11 after two inmates reported inappropriate sexual contact involving Bravo earlier that day.
The complaint alleges Bravo had engaged in inappropriate conduct with the women for approximately two weeks and would find reasons to enter their cell. The women alleged Bravo provided them with items including candy, hair ties, vapes and razors and performed special favors for them.
Both women accused Bravo of inappropriate touching and sexual contact, according to the complaint. One of the women alleged some of the conduct occurred multiple times and in different areas of the correctional facility.
The complaint contains additional explicit allegations regarding the reported assaults that are not being published to protect the privacy and dignity of the alleged victims.
Following the reports, both women underwent sexual assault examinations, and samples collected during those examinations were submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for analysis. Investigators also obtained a search warrant for a DNA sample from Bravo, according to the complaint.
The complaint states that on Sept. 23, investigators received BCA laboratory results involving samples collected from both women. Prosecutors allege the samples contained Y-chromosomal DNA profiles that matched Bravo.
Investigators also spoke with a witness who allegedly told authorities that Bravo had contacted him about the investigation. According to the complaint, the witness reported that Bravo acknowledged "touching" one of the women and expressed concern about the investigation because he had "actually did do something."
Bravo is charged with one count involving each alleged victim. The charges allege he engaged in sexual penetration while in a prohibited occupational relationship with the women.
The allegations contained in a criminal complaint are accusations and have not been proven in court. Bravo is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
