Major Road Closures and Businesses Closed After Crash Takes Down High-Tension Powerlines in Burnsville

UPDATE - 10 PM, September 14, 2025: County Road 42 and the surrounding roads have all reopened!

ORIGINAL STORY - BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA – Around 1 p.m. today, September 14, 2025, emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash in which a vehicle ended up striking a power pole with high-tension powerlines near the intersection of Burnhaven Drive and County Road 42. The collision brought down live power lines, leaving a significant portion of the area without electricity and causing widespread traffic disruptions as roads and businesses in the surrounding area needed to be closed for safety reasons.

There were at least half a dozen vehicles in the parking lot in front of The Great Frame Up that had the high-tension wires down across their vehicles. At this time, we do not know if any injuries occurred in the initial crash that led to this incident. We are working to gather more information on the possible cause and if there were any injuries.

Road Closures and Traffic Impacts

As it currently stands, authorities have closed County Road 42 in both directions between County Road 5 and Aldrich Avenue. In addition, several southbound streets off McAndrews Road, including Irving, Burnhaven, Aldrich, and West 141st Street, are shut down to all traffic. Additionally, several businesses in the area were closed out of an abundance of caution, and those located more than 1,000 feet from the high-tension power lines were at risk of falling.

Traffic lights in the vicinity were also reported to be out, and some neighboring businesses had also lost power. Drivers are experiencing heavy congestion as vehicles are being rerouted. Officials strongly urge motorists to avoid the area entirely.

The map below gives a rough idea of the entire area impacted area as a result of the crash and downed lines. Most businesses located within the affected zone, marked by the red polygon on updated traffic maps, have temporarily closed until at least the scene is deemed safe. The orange boxes on the map indicate locations where high-tension power lines are down or pose a potential hazard. A red star identifies the site of the two-vehicle crash.

Safety Concerns

Responders are emphasizing public safety, warning that downed power lines remain a serious risk. Crews are currently working to secure the area, restore power, and reopen roadways, though no timeline for full restoration has been released.

Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes and expect delays throughout the afternoon. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available from local authorities.
