Man Charged After E-Bike Pursuit in Robbinsdale; Police Say 420 Grams of Meth, Handgun Recovered

ROBBINSDALE MN: — A man is facing multiple charges in Hennepin County after prosecutors allege he fled Robbinsdale police on an e-bike before continuing to run through residential yards, with officers later recovering a handgun and more than 400 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Kenneth Lee Syverson has been charged with first-degree drug sale involving 10 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine and a firearm, first-degree drug possession involving 50 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine, carrying a pistol without a permit, and fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, Robbinsdale police officers responded around 3:20 a.m. on Sept. 10 to the area of 38th Avenue North and Perry Avenue North after receiving a report of three suspicious individuals.
The reporting party told police that three people ran when the reporting party drove down the street and appeared to be attempting to avoid the vehicle's headlights. The complaint alleges the individuals ducked down and hid behind vehicles. The reporting party also reported seeing two unfamiliar vehicles in the area, including one that was allegedly circling the block.
Officers responding to the area located three people, including Syverson, according to the complaint. Prosecutors allege Syverson immediately fled from officers on an e-bike and continued riding despite commands to stop and the activation of squad car emergency lights.
The complaint states Syverson rode the e-bike into the yard of a residence before jumping off when a fence blocked his path. He allegedly continued fleeing on foot through residential yards before officers arrested him.
Investigators later determined that Syverson allegedly dropped a two-tone Sig Sauer P320 handgun equipped with a red-dot sight along a curb while fleeing, according to the complaint. Police reviewed squad camera footage and located the handgun. Authorities collected DNA from Syverson and the firearm for further analysis.
Prosecutors allege Syverson did not have a valid permit to carry a firearm.
Police also recovered a black crossbody bag that Syverson allegedly discarded during the pursuit. According to the complaint, officers found Syverson's wallet and identification inside the bag, along with several quantities of suspected methamphetamine.
The complaint alleges officers recovered three smaller bags containing substances weighing a combined 6.68 grams that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also allegedly found a separate bag containing approximately 413.59 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Syverson remained in custody at the time the complaint was filed.
The first-degree drug sale charge carries a maximum potential sentence of up to 40 years in prison under the charging information and lists a minimum sentence of 65 months. The first-degree drug possession charge also carries a maximum potential sentence of 40 years. Any sentence would ultimately be determined by the court if Syverson is convicted.
The charges are allegations. Syverson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
