Rosemount Launches Free Water Filter Pitcher Program for Households With Infants

ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA - Families with bottle-fed infants in Rosemount will soon have access to free water filtration pitcher kits through a new city program that provides an additional option to reduce potential exposure to naturally occurring manganese in drinking water.
The City of Rosemount recently announced the launch of its Infant Formula Water Program, which will begin accepting applications on July 1, 2026. The voluntary program is available to eligible households with infants aged 0 to 12 months who use city water to prepare infant formula.
City officials emphasize that Rosemount's drinking water continues to meet all state and federal drinking water standards and remains safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, and other household uses. The program is being offered as an additional resource for families who wish to take extra precautions during infancy.
What the Program Provides
Eligible households will receive a complimentary water filtration pitcher kit designed to help reduce potential exposure to manganese in water used for infant formula preparation.
Each approved household will receive:
A six-cup pitcher-style water filtration system comparable to Brita or PUR products.
A six-pack of replacement filters, providing approximately one year of filtration.
One filter kit per eligible household each year.
The city will verify eligibility in person. Officials noted that required documents will be visually reviewed during the verification process, but no copies will be retained.
Once eligibility is confirmed, families will receive their filter kits immediately.
Why the Program Was Created
The Infant Formula Water Program is intended as a precautionary measure for infants who consume formula prepared with municipal water.
Manganese is a naturally occurring mineral commonly found in soil, rocks, groundwater, and surface water. While it is considered an essential nutrient in small amounts, health agencies recommend minimizing infants' exposure when practical, particularly during critical stages of early development.
Rosemount officials said the program is not required by any regulatory agency and does not indicate a drinking water safety issue. Instead, it serves as an optional support program for families seeking additional peace of mind.
Rosemount Water Remains Safe
City officials stressed that Rosemount's municipal water system continues to comply with all applicable state and federal drinking water regulations.

Applications for the program will open on July 1, 2026.
