RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, MINNESOTA - The Rice County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Monday evening that multiple fire departments responded Monday afternoon, November 3, 2025, to a large barn fire in rural Rice County that destroyed two structures and resulted in the loss of livestock.

According to the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:03 p.m. to the 10000 block of Kenyon Boulevard in Richland Township after the property owner reported seeing flames coming from a barn. When first responders arrived, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Kenyon, Faribault, and Nerstrand Fire Departments, along with Northfield Area Fire & Rescue Service, worked together to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. Despite their efforts, the barn, one additional outbuilding, and their contents were declared a total loss. Nerstrand Fire & Rescue reports they remained on scene until about 7 PM.

Authorities reported that no injuries occurred among residents, firefighters, or bystanders, but two livestock animals are believed to have been lost in the fire.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but there is currently no indication of foul play, according to Sgt. R. Spicer with the Rice County Sheriff’s Office.

Further updates will be released as additional information becomes available.
