Saint Paul Man Charged With Criminal Sexual Conduct Involving Child Under 14

SAINT PAUL MN: A Saint Paul man is facing felony charges in Ramsey County after authorities alleged he engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 14 and communicated electronically about sexual conduct with a child.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court, Jeremy Cortez Smith, 19, of Saint Paul, has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct – Contact Under 14, Actor More Than 36 Months Older and one count of Engaging in Electronic Communication Relating to or Describing Sexual Conduct with a Child.
The complaint alleges that between April 19, 2026, and May 27, 2026, Smith engaged in sexual contact with a victim who was under the age of 14 while being more than 36 months older than the victim.
Prosecutors further allege that during the same time period, Smith used electronic communications, including internet-based or computer communications, to engage in communications relating to or describing sexual conduct with a child or a person he reasonably believed to be a child age 15 or younger.
The criminal sexual conduct charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $35,000 fine, while the electronic communication charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
The case remains pending in Ramsey County District Court.
All charges are merely accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
