ST PAUL, MINNESOTA: The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating after Saint Paul police officers were involved in a shooting Sunday afternoon.

According to police, officers were alerted at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, that a vehicle reported stolen in Minneapolis was traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 toward Saint Paul. The alert came from General Motors, which was tracking the vehicle.

Police say General Motors remotely slowed the vehicle and brought it to a stop on the westbound I-94 ramp from Highway 52 at approximately 3:15 p.m. A male driver and a female passenger then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Authorities say that as the man ran, he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at officers. Officers fired their service weapons, striking the man once in the leg, according to police. He was transported to Regions Hospital with what police described as a non-life-threatening injury.

The female passenger was located a short time later and taken into custody, police said.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.

Due to the nature of the shooting, Saint Paul police requested the BCA to take over the investigation. Police say all officers involved were wearing body-worn cameras, which were activated at the time of the incident. The BCA will review body camera footage and other evidence as part of its investigation.

The identity of the man involved will be released by the BCA at a later date.

As is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting, the officers involved have been placed on critical incident leave. Police say no additional information is available at this time and future inquiries should be directed to the BCA.
