A 24-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly slipping out of handcuffs and kicking a police officer during an incident at a Shakopee hotel, according to a criminal complaint filed in Scott County.
Ruweida A. Malik is charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, obstructing legal process, and disorderly conduct.
According to the complaint, officers with the Shakopee Police Department were dispatched on or about March 29, 2026, to a disturbance at the Baymont Inn on Canterbury Road.
Police were attempting to break up a disturbance and directed individuals to leave the property. Malik allegedly refused to comply. Officers escorted her out of the room, but the complaint states she continued to refuse to leave and directed offensive remarks toward officers.
The complaint states Malik was told multiple times to leave the property but did not comply. She was then informed she was under arrest.
According to the complaint, Malik pulled away from officers multiple times during the arrest process. After being handcuffed, she allegedly managed to slip out of the handcuffs.
An officer then attempted to remove her from a squad vehicle to re-secure the handcuffs, at which point Malik allegedly spat in the officer’s direction, according to the complaint. While officers were attempting to seat her back in the squad, she allegedly kicked an officer in the head.
The charges referenced in this article are allegations based on a criminal complaint. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
