FARMINGTON, HASTINGS, & ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA - Residents of Farmington, Hastings, and Rosemount will have the opportunity to trade in gently used sports gear and pick up new-to-them equipment during the annual Sports Equipment Swap on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The event will take place from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Hastings High School, located at 200 General Sieben Drive in Hastings. The swap rotates annually among the three cities and is designed to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and help families save money while staying active.
How the Swap Works
The Sports Equipment Swap offers a simple, eco-friendly way for families to refresh their athletic gear. Participants are invited to bring clean, gently used sports equipment and trade it for items that better fit their current interests or needs.
No donation is required to participate; community members are welcome to attend and browse even if they do not bring items to swap.
Accepted items include:
Balls (basketballs, soccer balls, etc.)
Bats and gloves
Helmets
Cleats
Rackets
Other clean, usable sports gear
Organizers ask participants to ensure all items are in good, functional condition.
Items Not Accepted
For health and safety reasons, certain items will not be accepted, including:
Socks and undergarments
Worn swimsuits
Broken, dirty, or heavily worn equipment
Expired or damaged safety gear, such as bike helmets
These guidelines help ensure all swapped items are safe and ready for immediate use.
Donate Ahead of Time
Residents who cannot attend the event but still wish to contribute equipment can arrange a drop-off in advance. Those interested can contact Violet Penman, Solid Waste & Recycling Coordinator for the City of Rosemount, by email at Violet.Penman@RosemountMN.gov or by phone at 612-268-9097.
Promoting Reuse and Reducing Waste
The annual swap is part of ongoing waste reduction and recycling efforts in the south metro communities. By giving sports equipment a second life, organizers hope to reduce landfill waste, lower costs for families, and encourage continued participation in youth and adult athletics.
More information about waste and recycling events can be found on the City of Farmington’s website at FarmingtonMN.gov.
The event is family-friendly, and organizers encourage residents to bring the whole family for an evening focused on community connection, sustainability, and staying active.
