Severe Thunderstorms Bring Large Hail, Strong Winds, and Hazardous Travel Conditions Across the Twin Cities Metro
Severe thunderstorms swept across the Twin Cities metro on June 19, 2026, producing hail up to 2.25 inches, wind gusts nearing 60 mph, downed power lines, and more than 20,000 Xcel Energy customers without power. MnDOT cameras captured drivers stopping beneath highway overpasses as the storms moved through Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities.
