EDEN PRAIRIE - A 32-year-old Texas man has been charged with six offenses, including two gross misdemeanor counts of criminal vehicular operation, following an alleged drunken driving crash that injured another motorist in Eden Prairie.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court, Jonathan Moises Quiroz Mata is accused of causing a crash on September 26, 2026, at approximately 8:17 p.m. on Flying Cloud Drive near Interstate 494.
Investigators allege that Quiroz Mata was driving a Mercedes-Benz when he traveled through a red light at an excessive speed and struck a Honda CR-V traveling northbound on Flying Cloud Drive.
The Honda's driver reportedly suffered a bleeding leg injury and complained of back pain. He was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and requested transportation to a hospital.
According to the complaint, witnesses told police that Quiroz Mata accelerated through the intersection despite having a red light.
Responding officers reported observing signs of alcohol impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. Quiroz Mata allegedly refused field sobriety testing.
Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for a blood sample. Testing revealed an alcohol concentration of 0.259, more than three times Minnesota's legal driving limit of 0.08.
Quiroz Mata faces six charges, including two gross misdemeanor counts of criminal vehicular operation, gross misdemeanor third-degree DWI, misdemeanor fourth-degree DWI, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic control device.
The gross misdemeanor charges each carry a maximum possible penalty of 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.
All charges are allegations, and Quiroz Mata is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
