Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 77 in Eagan Sends One Driver to Hospital

EAGAN, MINNESOTA - A three-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 77 in Eagan sent one driver to the hospital and caused significant traffic delays during the Friday morning commute on August 21, 2026. According to information from the Minnesota State Patrol, troopers were dispatched at approximately 5:47 a.m. to northbound Highway 77 near County Road 30, also known as Diffley Road.
Authorities said a Nissan Rogue, Toyota Camry, and Honda Civic were all traveling northbound on Highway 77 near the exit ramp to Diffley Road when the crash occurred. The State Patrol said the Toyota struck the Nissan in a rear-end collision before colliding with the Honda Civic. Minor injuries were reported by all three drivers involved in the crash. The driver of the Civic, a 55-year-old from Burnsville, was transported to a hospital for suspected injuries. Additional information about the extent of his injuries was not immediately available.
The crash prompted a multi-agency emergency response. In addition to Minnesota State Patrol troopers, Eagan Police, Eagan Fire, Burnsville Fire, M Health Fairview medics, and MnDOT FIRST personnel responded to the scene.
Crash Causes Significant Morning Traffic Delays
The collision created substantial delays for drivers traveling northbound on Highway 77 during the morning commute. Emergency vehicles responding to the crash blocked the right lane of the highway near Diffley Road. At the same time, the far-left lane was already closed due to ongoing construction in the area.
With both lanes unavailable, northbound Highway 77 was temporarily reduced to a single open lane, causing traffic to back up through the area while emergency crews assisted those involved and worked to clear the crash. The right lane was reopened at approximately 6:34 a.m., about 45 minutes after troopers were initially dispatched. Traffic conditions gradually began improving after the lane reopened.
The Minnesota State Patrol is handling the crash investigation.
