Man Charged in Ramsey County After Deputies Allegedly Find Stolen Firearm While Offering Courtesy Ride

Published: April 7th 2026

RAMSEY COUNTY MN: A Ramsey County man is facing multiple charges after deputies allegedly discovered a stolen handgun in his pocket while preparing to give him a courtesy ride home, according to a criminal complaint.

Trevor John Kurvers, 37, is charged in Ramsey County District Court with receiving stolen property (firearm) (felony), possession of a firearm or ammunition following a previous felony conviction (gross misdemeanor), and carrying or possessing a pistol without a permit in a public place (gross misdemeanor).

According to the complaint, deputies were dispatched at approximately 3:58 p.m. on April 4, 2026, to the Walmart at 850 County Road E East in Vadnais Heights on a report that a man had followed a complainant out of the store, attempted to open the complainant’s vehicle door, and stood behind the vehicle, preventing the complainant from leaving.

Deputies later located the suspect, identified as Kurvers, in the parking lot of a nearby Target store. The complaint states Kurvers appeared unsteady on his feet, was slurring his words, and showed signs of being under the influence. Kurvers allegedly told deputies he believed the vehicle he tried to enter belonged to a friend.

The complaint states deputies initially determined no crime had been committed in connection with the Walmart incident and attempted to help Kurvers get home. After unsuccessful efforts to contact someone to pick him up, including attempts to arrange a ride service, deputies offered Kurvers a courtesy ride to his St. Paul residence, which he agreed to.

Before allowing him into the squad vehicle, deputies conducted a pat-down search for weapons. During that search, the complaint states deputies located a handgun in Kurvers’ jacket pocket. The firearm was later determined to be stolen.

Authorities allege Kurvers does not have a valid permit to carry a firearm. The complaint further states he was previously convicted of felony fifth-degree drug possession on October 31, 2024.

Kurvers was taken into custody following the discovery.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
