West Saint Paul Man Charged with First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct in Hennepin County

MAPLE GROVE MN: A West Saint Paul man is facing a felony charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct following an alleged incident in Maple Grove, according to court documents filed in Hennepin County District Court.
Shehan Ruwantha Perera, 38, has been charged under Minnesota Statute 609.342, Subdivision 1a(e), which addresses sexual penetration or sexual contact involving a victim under the age of 14 where the actor is more than 36 months older than the child.
According to the criminal complaint, the alleged offense occurred on or about Nov. 1, 2025, in the city of Maple Grove.
If convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, Perera faces a maximum statutory sentence of up to 30 years in prison, potential fines ranging from $12,000 to $40,000, and mandatory conditional release under Minnesota law.
All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
