Construction on West St. Paul’s Albert Park & Plaza Expected to Begin in Late September

WEST SAINT PAUL MN —Construction on the planned transformation of Albert Park into a new public plaza is expected to begin near the end of September, according to the City of West St. Paul.
The project will redevelop Albert Park, located near the intersection of Smith Avenue and Dodd Road, from its current small green space into a larger community gathering area.
Plans for the new Albert Park & Plaza include gardens, seating areas, public art, walkways, trees and a pergola. The city envisions the plaza as a space that can be used for community events, outdoor lunches and other gatherings.
The existing Albert obelisk will remain as part of the redesigned park. The city's plans also call for the return of the "Rock of Doddway."
Across the street, the city is also planning a memorial dedicated to Officer Scott Patrick between Zak's Auto and Clover Montessori.
The memorial was designed with input from Patrick's family and is planned to include gardens, seating, a swing, artwork and memorial elements intended to honor Patrick and community service.
The city's project timeline lists completion as likely in spring 2027, although the schedule remains subject to change as construction moves forward.
