WEST SAINT PAUL MN: A 23-year-old man is facing a gross misdemeanor charge in Dakota County after allegedly resisting arrest and biting a West St. Paul police sergeant during an incident at a bus stop, according to a criminal complaint.

Suamy Alexander Contreras Rodas, born Sept. 20, 2002, has been charged with obstructing legal process with force, a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.

According to the complaint, West St. Paul Police Officer Thisius was dispatched on May 21, 2026, to the intersection of Robert Street South and Wentworth Avenue East in West St. Paul for a report of an intoxicated man at a bus stop. CAD comments stated the man was wearing a blue hoodie, had a bottle next to him, and was vomiting.

Officers located the man, later identified as Contreras Rodas, and observed an open bottle of Fireball whiskey next to him, the complaint states.

According to the complaint, officers discovered Contreras Rodas had an active felony warrant and informed him he was under arrest. The complaint alleges that he physically resisted officers and attempted to flee.

The complaint states that West St. Paul Police Sergeant Windschitl and Officer Mandel maintained control of Contreras Rodas’ upper body while Officer Thisius grabbed his legs.
