Woman Charged With Felony Drug Possession After Police Respond to Inver Grove Heights Burglary Call

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS: — An Inver Grove Heights apartment burglary call led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and a felony drug charge after police determined the woman found inside was actually the leaseholder and was in the process of being evicted, according to a Dakota County criminal complaint.
Isabelle Usha Pauline Sutliff, 29, has been charged with felony fifth-degree controlled substance possession in connection with the June 3 incident.
According to the complaint, police were called to an apartment complex in Inver Grove Heights at approximately 12:03 p.m. for a reported burglary in progress. Authorities were told that a person had broken an exterior window and entered a ground-floor apartment.
Officers responded to the apartment and gained access with assistance from the property manager. Inside, police allegedly located Sutliff in a bathroom adjacent to a bedroom and placed her under arrest.
Investigators later determined that Sutliff was the leaseholder of the apartment and was in the process of being evicted, according to the complaint. Authorities also learned that Sutliff had an active warrant for her arrest.
While conducting a protective sweep of the apartment, officers allegedly observed what appeared to be methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the bathroom where Sutliff had been located.
An officer then applied for and obtained a search warrant for the apartment. Police subsequently re-entered the residence and collected the suspected methamphetamine, the complaint states.
According to prosecutors, the substance produced a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine using a NIK field test and had a net weight of approximately 1.6 grams.
Sutliff is charged with fifth-degree controlled substance possession, a felony under Minnesota law. The criminal complaint lists a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison and/or a fine.
The charge contained in the criminal complaint is an allegation. Sutliff is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
