Woman Accused of Punching St. Paul Officer in Head During Burglary Call

SAINT PAUL MN -A woman is facing three gross misdemeanor charges after prosecutors allege she punched a St. Paul police officer in the head while officers were responding to a burglary call Monday night.
Kayla Ann Marie Daily, 31, has been charged with obstructing the legal process by interfering with a peace officer, fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and fifth-degree assault, according to a criminal complaint.
The charges stem from an incident shortly before midnight on Sept. 21, 2026, near Grand Avenue and Victoria Street in St. Paul.
According to the complaint, St. Paul police officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 11:43 p.m. for a reported burglary. An identified caller told authorities that Daily had left a retail establishment that was closed.
An officer subsequently stopped Daily, but prosecutors allege she refused to comply with officers' instructions and attempted to walk away.
The complaint alleges that when an officer grabbed Daily's arm, she used her other arm to punch the officer in the head, causing pain.
Daily is charged with one count of obstructing the legal process involving force or violence and one count of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer. She is also charged with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree assault based on a previous qualifying conviction. Court records cited in the complaint state Daily was convicted of fifth-degree assault on Nov. 17, 2023.
Each of the three charges carries a maximum potential sentence of 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.
The allegations contained in the criminal complaint are accusations. Daily is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
