MVTA Seeks Public Input on Proposed Shakopee Transit Changes

SCOTT COUNTY, MINNESOTA - The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority is seeking public feedback on a proposal that would restructure local bus service in Shakopee, including eliminating two existing routes and replacing them with a new circulator route.
Under the proposal, MVTA would eliminate Route 497 and Route 499 and replace them with a new Route 429, which would operate under two service patterns: Route 429A and Route 429B. The changes are proposed to take effect in December.
Route 429 would serve as a new circulator through Shakopee, effectively replacing the existing Route 497 and Route 499 services.
Route 429A Would Provide Hourly Weekday Service
Route 429A would operate clockwise through Shakopee with hourly service on weekdays between approximately 4:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The route would connect riders with several major destinations and services throughout the city, including:
Marschall Road Transit Station
St. Francis Hospital
Shakopee High School
Shakopee VA
Hy-Vee
Town Square Mall
Scott County Government Center
Downtown Shakopee
Route 429B Would Operate During Peak Periods
A second pattern, Route 429B, would provide counter-clockwise service during weekday peak periods. Route 429B would serve the same major destinations as Route 429A while also serving Southwest Intermediate School and GN ReSound.
The proposed changes are intended to reorganize local Shakopee service while continuing to connect riders with employment centers, schools, government services, shopping areas, healthcare facilities and other destinations.
Public Comment Open Through October 15th
MVTA is asking riders, residents, and others affected by the proposal to provide feedback before implementing a final service change. The agency said public input is an important part of its effort to provide responsive, effective, and optimized transportation options throughout the region.
The public comment period will remain open through October 15, 2026.
