WOODBURY MN: A Woodbury man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities allegedly recovered nearly four pounds of methamphetamine and a firearm during the execution of a search warrant at his apartment in Woodbury, according to a criminal complaint filed in Washington County.
Nidal Adman Abuhamed, 32, has been charged with first-degree aggravated controlled substance crime involving methamphetamine and a firearm, first-degree controlled substance possession, and possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a crime of violence.
According to the complaint, members of the Saint Paul and Woodbury Police Departments executed a search warrant on May 26 at an apartment on Cochrane Drive in Woodbury following a narcotics investigation involving Abuhamed.
The complaint states investigators began surveillance of Abuhamed in early May and observed him regularly coming and going from the apartment while driving a black 2024 Honda HR-V registered in his name. Authorities also confirmed he was listed on the apartment lease, according to court documents.
When officers executed the warrant, Abuhamed was reportedly the only person inside the residence. He was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail.
According to the complaint, investigators located a Springfield 1911 handgun on a kitchen table. Authorities also found four plastic bags in a bathtub that allegedly contained methamphetamine.
The complaint states the bags weighed approximately 560 grams, 449.5 grams, 413.8 grams, and 352 grams. The combined weight of the methamphetamine was approximately 1,775.3 grams, or about 3.9 pounds.
Investigators also reportedly recovered 9mm and .45-caliber ammunition from the kitchen, a loaded magazine for the handgun near the front door, and suspected cutting agents from the kitchen area.
According to the complaint, law enforcement believed Abuhamed was in possession of a Springfield 1911 handgun that had been reported stolen during a recent burglary in St. Paul.
Court records cited in the complaint indicate Abuhamed was convicted of first-degree controlled substance crime in Pine County in September 2020. Prosecutors allege that conviction prohibits him from legally possessing a firearm.
The most serious charges carry potential penalties of up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine for a first controlled substance conviction, and up to 40 years in prison and a $1 million fine for a second or subsequent controlled substance conviction.
The case remains pending in Washington County District Court.
