Published: July 15, 2026

APPLE VALLEY, MN: One person was injured Sunday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 152nd Street West and Galaxie Avenue in Apple Valley, according to a crash report from the Apple Valley Police Department.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:47 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, and involved a 2014 Mazda CX-5 and a 2023 Kia Sportage.

According to the police report, the driver of the Mazda was traveling northbound on Galaxie Avenue and attempted to make a left turn westbound onto 152nd Street West. As the vehicle entered the intersection, it collided head-on with the southbound Kia, which was traveling straight through the intersection. Multiple witnesses told officers the Mazda turned directly in front of the Kia, leaving the southbound driver unable to avoid the collision.

The force of the impact caused the Kia to lose control and roll onto its passenger side before striking a city-owned red fence and brick structure, causing additional property damage and coming to rest in the parking lot of the Culvers. The Kia driver had to be extricated from the overturned vehicle by firefighters.

The 66-year-old male driver of the Kia from Apple Valley sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported by Allina EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The 59-year-old male driver of the Mazda from Burnsville was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Investigators determined the Mazda driver failed to yield the right-of-way while making the left turn and cited the driver for careless driving. Police identified failure to yield as the contributing factor in the crash. No alcohol or drug impairment was suspected. Neither driver was reported to be speeding or distracted when the crash occurred.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. The Mazda sustained moderate disabling damage, while the Kia sustained severe disabling damage following the rollover.
